Border crossing: documents and procedure specifics

  • a biometric international passport with a chip, valid for at least three months after the end of the trip;
  • medical insurance, which can be arranged through the KLR contact centre;
  • confirmation of the purpose of the trip: accommodation booking, an invitation, or a return ticket;
  • for children under 16 years of age — an international passport and a birth certificate. During martial law, the consent of the second parent may not be required; however, the final requirements are determined by the border guard service, so we still recommend having this document. Check the current rules before travelling;
  • a military registration document, either in paper form or in the “Reserve+” application, containing up-to-date information, including for men aged 18–22.
The following documents are required to arrange medical insurance:
  • The first page of the international passport. If the documents are available in the “Diia” application, screenshots of the opened passport must be provided.
  • Tax identification number, which is mandatory for adults but not required for children. If there is no identification number, prepare the first and second pages of the Ukrainian passport, the page confirming refusal of a tax identification number, and photos of both sides of the ID card.
During customs control, two drivers usually work together. One of them provides customs officers with the bus documents and all necessary permits, while the other coordinates the passengers: communicates the instructions of the border guards and informs passengers which documents need to be prepared. At the driver’s or border guards’ instruction, passengers may be required to leave the bus to undergo passport control. If any difficulties arise at customs, the drivers will advise you on the best way to resolve the issue.
